(8856) Celastrus ist ein Asteroid des äußeren Hauptgürtels, der am 6. Juni 1991 vom belgischen Astronomen Eric Walter Elst am La-Silla-Observatorium (IAU-Code 809) Europäischen Südsternwarte in Chile entdeckt wurde.

Der Asteroid wurde am 2. April 1999 nach der botanischen Bezeichnung Celastrales für die Ordnung (Biologie) der Spindelbaumartigen benannt, die in allen Teilen giftig sind und teilweise als Zierpflanzen in Parks und Gärten dienen.
